Barbara Brown Taylor

Had an opportunity to catch up with some of my other lady preacher friends in reading an author with witty humor, sense of intrigue and most importantly someone who is able to capture what it means to be human. I have been looking for someone to look up to in establishing my preaching voice and learning how to write and speak well. She is my person, I've decided. I'm sure I will find some other heroes along the way, but what BBT does with writing and sermon writing is really inspiring.

Here's an little taste of Barbara re-interpreting the "blessed" portion of the Sermon on the Mount: "Although Luke does not say so, I also believe it is pure blessedness for those on top, because there are some vitally important things about human life on earth that you simply cannot see with your feet far off the ground. To get a good look at them, you have to come down, as Jesus did, from the mountain plain. Things may not look as pretty from down there. You may see some things that make you cry , but your grief may teach you some things your good fortune never did".
